The Mobility client can be automated and installed silently using Windows Installer (MSI), with configuration options specified in an information (.inf) file.
Automated or silent installation of the Mobility client is needed.
This topic is for the Mobility client running on Windows and applies only to first-time installations; for
information about updating Mobility clients, see Scheduling and Monitoring Client Deployments in the
Mobility server help.
The Mobility client can be installed “silently” using Windows Installer (MSI): the user is not prompted for
input and unsigned driver warning messages are suppressed. You can add configuration options that are
either specified on the command line or in an information (.inf) file. In general, the default Mobility client
settings are appropriate; creating an .inf file simply allows for some customization.
A silent installation must be performed by an Administrator. A user with administrator privileges does not
have sufficient permissions to perform a silent install. If you are not logged on as an Administrator, use an
elevated command prompt when you run MSI.
Automating Client Software Installation, in the Mobility server help, covers the following procedures:
- Installing the Mobility client using MSI
- Editing an .inf file to configure the Mobility client for RADIUS authentication
- Installing the client using MSI and an .inf file
